Kind of same story as Randy’s (passing on several big racked young bucks) except we had seen this buck several times. I loved watching him. When he came in to the feeder everyone knew who the boss was and cleared out-no other bucks would even challenge him. I knew he needed to be taken out because of age (not official but 5.5-6.5) and rack but didn’t think he would make the 13 inch rule. I even told the boys he was 12 7/8.  I decided one afternoon late in the season (if I saw him) to take the risk because he needed to be taken out. Even took a measuring tape with me! Sure enough just before dark, as I’m watching a nice young big 8, here he comes. Exactly 13 inches-talk about relieved not having to think about what the Game Warden would say if he wasn’t (although we all know how that would have gone)!
